Quick Sweet Rawa Appams

This is not an  Traditional South Indian Appam recipe in a strict sense. This recipe has come down to me from my mother in law, she makes mean appams… ooh I love them. This one is a quick fix solution for the festival days when you forget to buy sweets or when you tend to wake up late and your hubby and kid are in a mood for something sweet. These are very nutritious and make a good tiffin snack for kids. I personally prefer home cooked sweets to the shop ones so I am always on a look out for something new. Since Janmashtami is fast approaching I decided this recipe would be good prasad for Kishen Kanhaiyya!!!



  1. Grind the coconut finely.
  2. Mix the ground coconut (or the coconut milk), sooji, poha, jaggery and the elaichi powder and cover and set aside for 1/2 hr. Now add the baking powder and mix.
  3. Heat an appam pan. Add a little ghee. Spoon out a little of the batter and cook on low heat till the appams start turning golden brown. Now turn them over and cook for 5 more mins.
