Seafood always implied Pomfrets,Kingfish or Prawns…And thats the case with most of Mumbai Ite’s like me. Having access to the best and fresh seafood,we didnt bother to venture into the other options. Besides those options didnt appeal much,especially with traditional recipes like this one makes Pomfret Fry the best in the world for me!



  1. Prepare the marinade by mixing lemon juice or vinegar, turmeric, chili powder, salt and ginger garlic paste. Add the fish to the marinade and leave it for at least an hour. You can marinate the fish in the morning and prepare it in the evening.
  2. At the time of frying add coriander powder, jeera powder, pepper powder to it
  3. Take chickpea flour or besan and rice flour in separate plates.Now roll the pomfret first in the besan and then in the rice flour.
  4. Fry in oil on both the sides till crisp. The lemon juice reduces the fishy smell and the fish becomes crisp because of the besan and the rice flour.
