With barely a fortnight remaining for diwali, we were chalking out a plan to meet the target of making basic traditional sweets, primarily, Chiwda,Chakali, Ladoos,and Namkeens..And all that seemed too difficult a task, considering the tight deadlines. It would also mean,occasional missing breakfasts or lunch, just to save the time. Needed a quickfix idea for a snack on the go, that would be both filling and nutritious.Its then I remembered these lovely granola bars,I last made for my fitness freak Brother In Law and his wife. It served a perfect morning grab ,just before their morning jogs, and kept them energised and full till before breakfast. And I knew I had to make them again,not just for me,..It would add a modern twist to my traditional Diwali Sweet Box. Besides, they are a very good option for kids snacks, a good substitute to satiate their sweet tooth and getting them eat nuts( My kiddo actually weeds out the nuts from anything, be it chocolates, milk or sweets)



  1. Lightly roast the oats and dessicated coconut in a pan till just light browned. Roast the almonds,pistacios,cashewnuts and roughly chop them. Deseed the dates and chop them. Mix the dryfruits and the oats and coconut and set aside.
  2. Mix butter,honey and demerera sugar in a saucepan and heat till it simmers,stirring continuously. Add the dryfruits and oats coconut mixture to this and mix till combined.
  3. Lightly grease and line two 6 inch square tins with parchment paper. Tip the mixture into the baking tins, and press them using back of a steel bowl. Bake in a preheated oven at 200 deg C, for 15-20 mins, or till the bars are browned from the sides a
  4. Cool slightly and demould. Peel off the paper when still warm,else it will stick to the bars. Cut into bars and store in an airtight jar.
