Shenga Chi God Bhaji/Drumstick In Sweet and Sour Curry

Drumstick was one of my favourite Mom’s creations. It was a traditional recipe, which I believe my Grand mom made the best, but my Mom has still maintained its charm! There was this Kadhi my grand-mom made with the pulp of the boiled drumsticks, that I can never get over. That recipe still remains a mystery for me, but this sweet and sour preparation is perfected in my kitchen as well! It ll amply prove, that these lovely vegetables aren’t just restricted to dals and sambars!

  1. Wash and peel with drumsticks and cut them into 1.5-2 inch pieces. Put a length wise cut into them. Boil them in water till slightly soft, but still firm.( I half cook them before using them, but if they are really tender, you can use them directly.)
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard and cumin. Add slit green chilly when they crackle. Add chopped onion and fry till translucent. Add tomatoes and potato.
  3. Add turmeric,goda masala,salt and mix. Add the drumsticks and mix well. Add the jaggery and 2 tbsp water and cook covered till the drumsticks and potatoes are soft.
  4. Add the peanut powder and mix. Add chopped Coriander leaves and serve.
